Overview

The Quality Practitioner apprenticeship develops individuals who deploy effective Quality Practices within their responsible area, found across a wide range of organisations including automotive, defence, food, pharmaceutical, nuclear, retail, financial services, logistics, and the public sector.

The role spans four main elements: Quality Planning (implementing Quality Management Plans), Quality Assurance (conducting audits), Quality Control (carrying out inspections), and Continuous Improvement (investigating and addressing root causes of poor quality).

End Point Assessment Components

The EPA for Quality Practitioner consists of two assessment methods designed to test knowledge, skills, and behaviours:

1. Project Presentation with Questions & Answers
A presentation and questioning session on a 4,000-word work-based project, with a minimum of 5 questions drawn from a question bank.
  • Duration: 60 minutes (35 min presentation, 25 min questioning)
  • Location: Face-to-face or remote
  • Grading: Pass/Distinction/Fail
2. Professional Discussion
Structured discussion showcasing the integration of knowledge, skills, and behaviours required by the standard.
  • Duration: 60 minutes
  • Format: Online via Microsoft Teams
  • Grading: Pass/Distinction/Fail

What's Assessed in the EPA

The End Point Assessment evaluates apprentices across Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours as defined by the occupational standard:

Knowledge

  • Quality Planning: developing and implementing Quality Management Plans
  • Quality Assurance: audit methodology and stakeholder confidence-building
  • Quality Control: inspection and specification-verification techniques
  • Continuous Improvement: root cause analysis and corrective action

Skills

  • Plan and implement quality delivery systems for an area of responsibility
  • Conduct audits and inspections against agreed specifications
  • Investigate quality issues and address root causes
  • Analyse quality performance data and report findings
  • Engage with engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, and service delivery functions

Behaviours

  • Act as an advocate for Quality Practice and Governance
  • Work collaboratively across internal departments and external stakeholders
  • Maintain rigour and objectivity in audits and inspections
  • Take ownership of continuous improvement outcomes

On-Programme Learning

Full-time apprentices typically spend 14 months on-programme (before gateway) working towards the occupational standard, with off-the-job training as per current funding rules.

Gateway

Apprentice, Employer, and Training Provider sign Good2Go's gateway agreement confirming:

  • Consistently working at or above the level of the occupational standard
  • Achieved English and Maths at Level 2
  • Completed a portfolio of evidence
  • Work-based project title approval document

Training Provider uploads to ACE360:

  • Proof of Maths and English at Level 2
  • Portfolio of evidence
  • Gateway agreement
  • 500-word project scope

EPA period typically lasts 6 months

Project Scope Meeting

Good2Go contacts the apprentice and employer to arrange the project scope meeting, completed within 2 weeks of gateway signoff, to discuss the work-based project title approval document.

Project Report and Presentation

The apprentice has 22 weeks maximum from the project scope meeting to complete their 4,000-word project report and presentation, returned to Good2Go a minimum of 2 weeks before the EPA date.

Presentation & Professional Discussion

The apprentice undertakes the Professional Discussion (60 minutes) and the Presentation and Questions (60 minutes: 35 minutes presentation, 25 minutes questioning).

Gateway Requirements
